GENMEDA at the 4th Mediterranean Plant Conservation Week

The history of the GENMEDA network and its activities as well as the future challenges for the conservation of the Mediterranean flora were presented at the 4th Mediterranean Plant Conservation Week (4MPCW) which took place in Valencia, Spain, from 23 to 27 October 2023.

GENMEDA was among the organisers of the event together with the GENMEDA members Centre for Forestry Research and Experimentation (CIEF, Generalitat Valenciana), Botanical Garden of the University of Valencia (BGUV) and IUCN.

GENMEDA General Assembly meeting 2023

The General Assembly annual meeting of GENMEDA took place at the Botanical Garden of the University of Valencia on 23 October 2023. The meeting took place in conjunction with the 4th Mediterranean Plant Conservation Week (4MPCW), 23 - 27 October 2023, which was organised by the GENMEDA members in Valencia, CIEF and JBUV. Most GENMEDA members were participating and contributed to the 4MPCW which included an oral communication about the GENMEDA network and its activities.

The rediscovery after 61 years of Consolida samia, a rare plant of the Greek flora

4th Mediterranean Plant Conservation Week, Valencia, 23-27 October 2023 - 2nd call - Registration open

The Centre for Forestry Research and ExperimentationCIEF, together with the Botanical Garden of Valencia and with the collaboration of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), GENMEDA and the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (CIHEAM-MAICh) will organise the fourth edition of the Mediterranean Plant Conservation Week from 23 to 27 October 2023 at the Botanical Garden of Valencia.

Gavdos Island - Crete - Endangered Plant Recovery Project

The pilot project "Gavdos Island - Crete - Endangered Plant Recovery Project" (2021-2022) was implemented in the context of the wider project "Mediterranean Islands Collective: Collaborating to protect Nature on Mediterranean Islands" in which 25 organizations (including institutes, NGOs and municipalities among others) participate from all over the Mediterranean.

Natura 2000 Biogeographical Process – Networking Event “Disentangling the complexity and variability of Mediterranean temporary ponds (habitat type *3170)”

WILDFOOD Mid-term Conference & Policy Forum, 26-27 May 2022

WILDFOOD is a PRIMA funded project (2020-2023). GENMEDA General Assembly meeting at Chania, Crete, 27 September 2021

GENMEDA becomes partner network of RESEDA-Flore

The RESEDA-Flore network (Reseau d’acteurs pour la conservation de la flore méditerranéenne) is an initiative of the GENMEDA member Conservatoire Botanique National Méditerranéen of Porquerolles (CBNMed). Created in 2018, RESEDA-Flore is the very first network working all over the French Mediterranean territory for the conservation of flora.

The Mediterranean Plant Conservation Unit (MPCU) of MAICh has secured funding for the follow-up of the in situ actions for Horstrissea dolinicola Greuter, P. Gerstberger & B. Egli and Androcymbium rechingeri Greuter, two taxa for which in situ actions were implemented in Crete during the CARE-MEDIFLORA project.

CARE-MEDIFLORA final publication

CARE-MEDIFLORA, "Conservation Actions for Threatened Mediterranean Island Flora: ex situ and in situ joint actions", is a project which was successfully completed by institutions of six Mediterranean islands, all of which are members of GENMEDA, and the Mediterranean Plant Specialist Group (IUCN/SSC).
