The Mediterranean Plant Conservation Unit (MPCU) of MAICh has secured funding for the follow-up of the in situ actions for Horstrissea dolinicola Greuter, P. Gerstberger & B. Egli and Androcymbium rechingeri Greuter, two taxa for which in situ actions were implemented in Crete during the CARE-MEDIFLORA project.
The H. dolinicola new project was initiated in May 2020. Funding has been granted to the MPCU by the Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund in order to continue its conservation actions for this plant until 2022. During CARE-MEDIFLORA the in situ conservation actions included reinforcement of the population and the creation of a Plant Micro-Reserve which was legally established in May 2020, after CARE-MEDIFLORA had ended (see SPECIES INFORMATION SHEET pdf). Now, an information sign will be placed at the Micro-Reserve and monitoring and reinforcement actions will be continued. Find more information about the new project in the Case Study here.
The new project for A. rechingeri, “Management actions to achieve Favourable Conservation Status for the priority plant species of the Habitats Directive Androcymbium rechingeri Greuter (1842) in Greece”, is funded by the national Green Fund Funding Programme “NATURAL ENVIRONMENT & INNOVATIVE ACTIONS 2020”, PRIORITY AXIS 1: Biodiversity Conservation Actions. The conservation actions which were initiated during CARE-MEDIFLORA (see SPECIES INFORMATION SHEET pdf) in the Elafonisi area will be continued to a wider extent and actions will also be implemented in Falassarna, another locality of the plant where pressures and threats have negative impacts on the species conservation status. This project will also be carried out until 2022.
For both species, the experience acquired during CARE-MEDIFLORA is valuable for a successful implementation of the new in situ actions.
