GENMEDA network and CARE-MEDIFLORA project meet in Rome

A joint meeting of GENMEDA members and the CARE-MEDIFLORA project was organised in Rome on 18 May 2017. Discussions were devoted to the GENMEDA network priorities (i.e. reconstruction of website and database, ideas for common future projects and expansion of the network with new members) and the collaboration with the CARE-MEDIFLORA project. CARE-MEDIFLORA, "Conservation Actions for Threatened Mediterranean Island Flora: ex situ and in situ joint actions", is a project that aims to improve the conservation status of threatened Mediterranean plant species. It is implemented by institutions of six Mediterranean islands (Balearic Islands, Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, Crete and Cyprus), 4 of which are founding members of GENMEDA, and the IUCN/SSC Mediterranean Plant Specialist Group. One of the aims of the CARE-MEDIFLORA project is the reinforcement and enlargement of the `GENMEDA network.

During the meeting it was decided to enrich its current 13 members from 7 Mediterranean countries with 5 interested institutions as new associate members, 2 of which are CARE-MEDIFLORA partners. The associate members are expected to become full members after one year.
