First Announcement: 6th Mediterranean Plant Conservation Week (6MPCW) – Tunisia, April 2027

29 July 2026

This is the first announcement of the 6th Mediterranean Plant Conservation Week (6MPCW), which will take place in Tunis from 19 to 23 April 2027.

The 6MPCW, organised by INAT, CIHEAM-MAICH, CEPF and the IUCN Plant specialist Group, with the support of the GENMEDA network, represents a historic milestone, as, following the success of previous editions in Montenegro (2016), Malta (2018), Greece (2021), Spain (2023) and Cyprus (2025), the MPCW will be held for the first time on the southern coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Under the theme motto “Bridging Continents: from a shared biogeographical legacy to a shared plant conservation responsibility”, the conference aims to deepen cooperation between Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.

The forum will bring together more than 200 experts, including researchers, practitionners and representatives of civil society, to discuss seven strategic themes, ranging from ecological restoration to conservation in times of crisis, as well as two engaging side events, celebrating biocultural heritage and honoring the next generation with the Young Conservation Award!

In addition, the organisers will be offering travel grants for participants from low-income countries and a 50 per cent discount on registration fees for students.
